ON THE FLY for Intel

Tabletop interactive system

"ON THE FLY" is being permanently exhibited at the Intel® Collaboration Center, a place for communicating new computing experiences. ON THE FLY is an infotainment system that integrates paper and digital media, in which text and video magically appear on the surface of paper cards when they are placed on a table. In this exhibition, we placed five different types of cards on a table to interactively demonstrate Intels new corporate identity, "Look Inside." Each card is designed to present a different computing experience of the future.

Approach: Infotainment using ON THE FLY

Takrams ON THE FLY is an infotainment system that integrates paper and digital media, in which text and video magically appear on the surface of paper cards when they are placed on a table. Just as the name suggests, ON THE FLY (meaning, then and there, dynamically, and by improvisation) provides a surprising user experience using a high precision image recognition technology to immediately and accurately project video onto the paper card according to its location, even when the card is moved around the table. Through an instinctive and tangible user interface of placing, touching, moving, and filling the hole on the paper, this project provides the user with a surprising experience, as if the fictional technology of a sci-fi movie has turned into reality.

Detail: On The Fly Card

CARD 01 uses Dienamic patterns as visual expressions of Intels processor, which appear on the surface as one holds the card. CARD 02 displays the actual package size and μ architecture block diagram of microprocessors, from the worlds first microprocessor Intel 4004 to the latest model. CARD 03 displays elements that make up the semiconductor such as silicon together with the periodic table of elements. CARD 04 displays a promotional movie designed to express the concept of "Look Inside." Card 05, when opened, displays the photo of the guests that were taken when they entered the facility.
